Gran Teatre del Liceu

Gran Teatre del Liceu

Barcelona’s opera house, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, was opened in 1847 on the city’s main thoroughfare, La Rambla, and has maintained its role as a bastion of art and culture over the years. In terms of seating capacity, it was the largest opera house in Europe for the first 100 years of its existence, as well as the premiere opera house in Catalonia and Spain.

The opera house is currently publically owned (by the Catalan Regional Government, Barcelona City Council, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport), and is managed by the Gran Teatre del Liceu Foundation, which, as well as the aforementioned bodies, comprises the Patronage Council and the Gran Teatre del Liceu Society.

Seating capacity: 2,026 people
